Day and Night Chess Set

Influenced by the beauty of the highly saturated last light of sunset, the depth of a brightly lit starry night, and the subtle shifts in light which take place in the time between those two extremes.

The chess board is slip cast from an original mold. The surface of the board is hand painted underglaze, with a layer of clear. The hand-built pieces represent stacks of balancing stones which are relative in form to the chess piece they represent.
